If you were let go from your job - and you were still unemployed two years later - and found yourself in need of cash - could you still apply for unemployment insurnace?

Depends on the state, every state administers its own unemployment insurance plan and I know the rules vary widely..

Go to your state's website and see if you can find a link there. Or just use the yellow pages and call the correct state department.

Why would you not have applied when you were first unemployed.

You can apply now, but whether your claim will be granted or denied will depend on state laws. In many states, you must have had reported earnings in a specified time, so would not be eligible. But go ahead and apply anyway - if they turn you down, you're no worse off than if you don't apply.
