you're old enough...

I had a savings account in my pre-teens. It had been a school assignment to teach kids the value of saving. I kept that account open for a long time and each week I put part of my allowance in.

I'm in Staten Island, NY

well it depends. A savings account you can open at any age with parental permission unless you are living on your own. A checking account you have to be 18.

Savings? If your parents opened it for you, at age 1 day.
Find a bank close to you and who knows you. They have childrens account section. They always encourage, thrift in children- good trait.
As for checking, most banks will want you to be an adult., so Id say, another 3 more years.

i think most banks require you to be 18 to open an account alone other than that you have to have a parent a parent be on the account to. since you are under the legal age.
