The dyed cookie mentioned above sounds good, also, you may try different colored food bowls. I do know Dogs see color, regardless of what Goober Heads say, I can prove that. But, the approach is to use different colored food of the same type, then to double check use it randomly in different colored bowls. I think these two should confirm your test. Good Luck!
Oh, if you have any cookies left over, send them to me, I love cookies. ;-p
Please do not use the Dog Biscuits, I tried them and they terrible, use cookies!

I don't think color affects their appetite or interest in the food as much as variety does. My dog turns his nose up at dog food with no shapes, if you know what I mean. He doesn't prefer any color over another.
My idea, get a box of colored treats. They have boxes of dog biscuits that are red and green and stuff, buy a few boxes of those. The dogs will sit there and eat them as long as you're handing them. I don't know if my dog is special, but sometimes I let him pick which treat he wants, and he'll sniff them both a couple times and pick one. Pick 2 colors of dog biscuit and keep offering those 2 colors to the dogs, and see which one they go for more often. That's all I can think of.

Try using cookies dyed with food coloring. Make the batter, separate it into different bowls, and put a few drops of dye into each. Spread the cookies out equally spaced, release the dog from about 4 ft. away and document which cookie each dog picks first. Mix the colors each time so you can make sure the dog isn't just picking the cookie on the end/middle, etc. or if he does, you can document this in your research.

Color will fail, dogs do not see color...they only see from black to white with shades of gray in between...flavor is where your science project would turn out better....liver, chicken, beef, fish
four dogs each trying four flavors...that is 16 experiments to draw a conclusion including your four dogs

My vet tells me never to feed my dog food with red dye in it...to only get the brown food because the red does something to their intestines.

Use different colored dog-bowls and measure how fast they eat depending on which bowl you are using.
