Good rule of thumb is be honest and tell her.
I would however do this in person. You can have her do the lay ups and teach her while being on the sidelines. If she has any kind of compassion she will understand completely.

You don't have to be physcially active in the participation of teaching. she is the one learning and you can do the teaching and still have fun doing it.

I think it will be loads of fun and think about it she may learn more quickly in this manner instead of you doing it for her.
Happy times good luck and have fun

reschedule, don't make your ankle any worse for a girl, but you should still hang out together, maybe watch her play basketball a little.

Tell her you just can't today. You could hurt yourself more if you don't stay off it .(I broke my leg in June) Postpone it till you are better!
