I don't know. Some people do it to annoy others, some simply do not know better or think before they do so.

Why should you be upset if you are not stereotypic. Religion should be something you wear in your heart, not by jewelery, or dress. For racists, they should be fair and hate every one equally...for atheists, they too need to hate other atheists equally. The problem lies in that people don't know how to channel their energies into so many different directions and lock on to one or two groups...now it is mostly the Muslims and the Jews...but they don't have the brain capacity to include druids, animalists, ancestor worshippers, the Cao-Dai or even the Taoists....Now is that fair? As a Buddhist, I feel slighted because so much energy is wasted on ONLY Christians...that is not fair. My friend...a Chinese Muslim also feels this....oh, Chinese Muslim...not a bit of animosity...really. This lack of diversity in hate almost causes me to want to convert to a more objectional religion. Of course I am joking but don't expect the rampant youth to respond with an iota of intelligence, they are simply baiting people for their own self-satisfaction, the big put-down to protect their own insecurities and frustrations. There are a few intelligent people here....not many it seems...but a few.

I'm guessing that people ask that kid of question for a variety of reasons:
1. They actually believe in the bigoted premise of their question, and are taking advantage of the opportunity to ask it here, whereas they would NOT in person
2. They're just yanking peoples' chains
3. They think it's funny
4. They don't believe their own premise, and want to flush out bigots
But what the heck, I know that I don't really know; I'm unable to wrap my head or heart around this kind of behavior.

Well some people are just plain unintelligent.
Also, they may just assume that their opinion is shared by everyone else, and not even realize that it might be offensive to the person they are asking.
If that's not the case, they may just be assholes.
