I had my baby in December too! Gosh, that was three years ago...
Undershirt (NOT a onesie, irritates the new bellybutton stub), socks, outfit that is one piece covering arms, body, legs, and feet. DON'T layer a new born in bulky, thick, clothes.
Add a thin blanket to go on top, and get one of those car seat toppers that stretch across the top of it, unzip in the middle, and have a flap near the babies head.
Ideally, your husband will have the car warmed up and ready for you when you come out of the hospital, so your baby will only be outside for like 15 seconds. Don't dress him like he'll be outside in a blizzard for a hour.
TIP: adjust the car seat ahead of time so the shoulder straps are at their lowest so you're not struggling with it at the hospital. Also, practice putting the carseat in and out of the car, and make sure you know how to get the handle in the down position! My husband was SO frustrated just trying to leave the hospital because of our car seat! They wouldn't let us leave until everything was just right with it.
Good Luck!

I brought two baby outfits to the hospital when I had my baby. One was for the pictures, the other for bringing her home. She was born in November, and it's very cold where I live - she wore a little pink dress for her pictures and I brought her a onesie, socks, and a very thick sleeper to wear home - all in newborn sizes. I also brought a few blankets - a pretty one for the background of her picture, the other for when she went home. They provided her with a little knit cap, so I didn't bring one of those. You could bring a snowsuit or coat, but I didn't, I just tucked a few blankets around her. I had the car warmed up before I took her outside, had it pulled it right up to the curb and hooked her in the carseat before I went outside and it worked perfectly since she was only outside for a few seconds. (If you live in a warm climate, though, I guess this info isn't what you need...) I think basically if you just bring the baby something tiny, comfortable and easy (like no complicated three piece outfits with matching shoes...), you'll be fine!
You won't need any other baby supplies, like diapers or lotion, the hospital will provide you will all of that, and you also won't need any clothes for the baby while you're in the hospital.
Congrats and good luck!

You want to make sure that the baby is well covered. It is pretty cold in december so I would recommend a hat, heavy sleeper outfit and one of those car seat covers. I personally had an item called "Bundell me baby" It straps into the car seat through the belts so it completely envelopes your baby just like a little pouch it totally eliminates the need for carrying blankets. You can find it at Target. I used it all through the winter w/ my son. It is made out of a thick thermal material. it is a wonderful product. You may be able to find it at target.com
Other than that the hospital provides all of the other necessities. My labor was so unexpected I went in the hospital with nothing abd came out with a beautiful baby and a truck load of supplies. they will give you everything you need. Good luck w./ your new little blessing.

It depends on where you live and what the weather is like at that time. I think you should dress the baby comfortably, but don't overbundle him. Definitely get him a hat and an outfit with long sleeves and long pants. I live in an area where it gets very cold during winter months, and although I never needed one for my baby (born in spring), I've seen a lot of bunting bags/carseat covers on those little infant carseats. They're made out of a fleece-like fabric, and they cover the entire carseat with a little panel where baby's head is that can flip open and closed and attaches with velcro. They're pretty common in stores... I know I've seen them at Wal Mart. Other than that, you shouldn't need much else as long as you're just traveling from hospital to car and then from car to house. Just pre-warm the car, and all should be fine.
Good luck to you and your little one!

Don't try to put the baby in a lot of heavy clothes or a snow suit. You'll have a terrible time trying to fasten the car-seat straps. Instead, dress the baby in a onesie (undershirt) and a sleeper. Put a hat on, then strap him or her in the car-seat while you are still inside. Before you go outside, make sure the car is warmed up, then cover the baby with a warm blanket. That's all you need to do! Good luck!

I had my first child in February and the hospital would not let me bring him home in a snowsuit (regular coat thickness or in something that did not have separate legs, not a baby bag) He came home in a very thin zip up Carters one piece thin fleece "snowsuit". I also had a car seat cover. It had elastic all the way around it, a flap so the baby could see out and it just slipped over the car seat.. It worked much better then a blanket because it could not fall off. I think I bought it at Wal-Mart but I have seen them at second hand stores. I live in Vermont and my baby was nice and warm.

Bring something warm- we had our son in a sleeper- a cozy soft one! Also a heavy blanket would be nice to cover the baby with while going outside. They also make those covers for the infant car seats- we had one, and it was wonderful! They will give you things like diapers, nose suction bulb, a long-sleeved t-shirt was what our son had (white one from the hospital), receiving blanket, hat, formula if needed... our even gave him a pacifire. So anything warm like a sleeper and a warm blanket...
Congrats!

You need to get the baby something warm to wear home. Also wrap the baby up in a couple of blankets. It's December a month anyone has to wrap up especially the babies.

It's sorta a tradition to bring your baby home in a fancy outfit. If it's a girl, get a ruffled dress and if its a boy get a nice outfit. Dillards and a lot of other department stores have coming home outfits. Then afterwards you are supposed to keep it forever. Hope this helps. A lot of people don't do it though.

Bring warm "sleeper" outfits, Those ones with feet and long arms. Also hats. And I would get one of those snow suits, they sell them at Wal-Mart for like twenty bucks. They also have those car seat covers. They come in different colors, and they're great for warmth for the babe. Also don't underestimate how great and warm recieving blankets are. Good luck to u and congrats
