You say bloody alot and across the pond too, and you like tea, and it's fun to talk in your accents, and I love Monty Python "theres a penguin on the television" "If it laid an egg which way would it fall?" wow I know I'm a weirdo, and we know that harry potter is a book by jk rowling I have had to do like 3 reports on her I could tell you her nickname from childhood, and the book has probably been in the media more then the movies we have the parties at the bookstores and stuff so we know harry potter are books before movies. I love England I have been there 4 times and I did hear the word bloddy quite a few times, but sadly a lot of them don't like Americans because they believe in the stereotypes, like one time I was talking to people and they were surprised that I was an American because I am not fat, and I was like there are a lot skinner people then me in the US they were surprised, and let's just say they weren't the smallest people ever, but I like England very much, they just don't seem to like us.

My perspective may be a bit queer because I was in a domestic partnership with a someone from Exeter, Devon for some three years, listen to BBC radio on Internet, and have a great deal of respect for English people in general.
And, as far as the business about talking only about the queen or on the other end of the spectrum, sitting at pub hashing out the football results, that is all stereotyping. The English people I have known down through the years have been, to me, quite balanced, though unique people.
I might add, some of us on this side of the pond drink tea and discuss the Royals. It all depends upon how closely we identify with GB and England in particular.
Having said that, why the fark does America produce out and out religious fanatics, and many of its people think they are the Divine's gift intended to set the world to rights?

In Germany, the Agatha Christi impression of the "typical Englishmen" has definitely taken hold with the older generation.
Sadly there is a second stereotype around of the British not being able to drink in a civilised way when you are on holiday! You have to admit that there is a certain truth in it - just as with the Germans reserving all the sunbeds first thing in the morning... :)

Prim, proper, beautiful countryside, tea drinkers, keep to yourself types, snobs about your pronunciation of English, wild young people, financial whizzes, very high cost of living, bland cooking are the stereo types people in the USA get from movies and the media. Not being rude---just thought about some first impressions. Love the English!

im fromt he uk. so i guess i shoudlnt say anything. but other countries make perceptions of other countries mainly because of the media.. oh and for those americans who know nothing about us!
1. harry potter is a book turned into a film by warner bros. (AMERICAN)
2. tea came from japan as green tea. we simply made it a hot drink.
3. we dont have a certain time for drinking tea and eating crumpets. lol
4. we have good dental care and we pride ourselves on that!
5. austin powers is not what england is really like i mean come on.
so yeah alot of people get the wrong perception of us. we dont say bloody all the time wor w*nker for that matter i think people need to come here and se it for themselves only then can you say what we are like.
I have noticed its the stupid kids in america that say stuff like that. either that or they are george bush supporters. idiots simple as. i used to like america but its stereotypical views and asshole qualities let it down.
