All suggested potentially hazardless ways,
but how about overclocking your hardware.
But remember this is a very risky way & may damage your PC.
Do not overclock it in a drastic manner.

1. if u have less RAM i.e, 128 MB then u need add more
2.try defragmenting the drives by right click on drive, select tools and defragment.
even if did'nt works, download 'XP manager' software from 'funmaza.com' free of cost and run the registry cleaner
i m sure that will work

Dear Friend:
Here are the ways to increase the speed of your
computer:
A.) Remove (delete) any unused software, especially
from your Start-up menu.
B.) Defragment your hard disk often.
C.) Install SpyBot "Search and Destroy" to detect and
isolate / remove any spyware that has gotten into your
system. You might also take a look at AdAware which
does much the same thing.
D.) Install SiSoft Sandra 2002. There is a feature in
that software which will give you a whole long list of
things which may assist you in properly setting up
your system for max speed.
E.) Check out your Mother Board (See SiSoft Sandra)
for type and model number. Determine by doing a search
on the Internet for the Tech Data on that board, what the
fastest CPU is that your board will accomodate. See
what your CPU Chip is and what speed it is running at.
If there is a big difference between what you have and
what your mother board will support, you can look at
TigerDirect.com for CPU upgrades which are almost
simple swap outs - one for the other. Make sure you
get a fan cooling unit with the new CPU chip, preferably
a fan with ball bearings and not sleeve bearings so it
will last a long time. I suggest that you get the assistance of a trained computer tech for this work.
F.) While peaking around inside your computer, check
for the total number of memory sockets on your mother
board. is there a chip in each one of them? If not, then
you have room for more memory. Purchase the exact
type needed for your mother board and bus speed
(that is the speed that data is shifted back and forth
in and out of memory). Improving the size of your
RAM memory will make things go much faster. Memory
has come down in price a whole lot in recent years.
Purchase as much as you can - that will fit into your
available memory chip slots. If you have 256 Meg now,
in one chip...consider going to two chips of 512 Meg
each, or two chips of 1 Gig each. Budget, and the space available will determine what you can do. I suggest that you consult a trained computer guy for this change out.
G.) If your computer is already running at max speed
for the Mother Board and CPU Chip that is installed,
the only other option is to investigate the replacement of the mother board and CPU. To find the correct ones to
look at you will need to know the "style" of computer case you already have, and hopefully note the power in watts of your current power supply. With that information in
hand you can look at a catalog from Tigerdirect dot com,
or call them at 1-800-888-4437 and get quotes on replacement mother boards with CPU and Fans. You should be able to do this for about $140 give or take,
depending upon how fast you want your machine to operate. Normal designs for Mother Boards are for case styles as follows: ATX Formfactor, MATX Formfactor, and
SFF Barebone, You should also be aware of the type of CPU your board will require...That might be a:
Socket 939
Socket 775
Socket 774
Socket 478
Socket 754
Socket A
Each mother board listing in the TigerDirect Catalog will
show how many memory slots are available for RAM Memory useage.
I am looking at the catalog now and a Biostar NF4SLIA9
Socket 939 Mother Board is $139 with a bus speed of up to 2000 Mhz, and slots for up to 4 DIMM at a max memory size of 4 Gig. Socket 939 processors (CPU)
go for $363 to $1199 and you will need memory to go with that. This is a VERY fast mother board, and I only
mention it to show some of the top of the line stuff you
might want to look into. Those CPU chips run at speeds
from 3500 to 4800 Mbps and are for serious folks. Slower
packages are available for normal people. Your pocket book will make the decision for you.
H.) Now the last item for you to consider is your Hard Disk. If your hard disk is running at a speed of rotation that is less than 7200 RPM, you have old technology. Everything your computer does depends upon the speed of reading and writing on the hard disk. So if your's is slower than 7200 RPM, you might want to look at a new hard disk. TigerDirect has models at 7200 RPM ranging from $50 to about $360 depending upon storage capacity and manufacturer. They even have a 10,000 RPM model from Ultra that has 74 Gig of storage for $200. That is fairly cheap compared to hard drives of 5 years ago.
Installing one of these hard drives is a job for a Tech Person, and you will loose a lot of non-backed up data
and programs in the process. However, your computer will just about dance and sing for you when it is installed.
Hope all this helps you.

add memory (RAM), clean out your "caches," remove spyware and other extraneous programs you never use that may run "under" others, don't have so many windows open at once, defrag all hard drives...or just buy a Mac.

if you have 256MB of memory or less, add memory.
reinstalling windows will also get it back to be as fast as it used to be, if that's the problem
