The chimera is an animal made of several different animals - the body of a goat, the tail of a snake and the head of a lion. With advances in genetics and cloning, is it possible to create a creature made of sets of cells containing different DNA? If so has any such creature or person ever been recorded?

Anyone who's ever had an organ transplant is "a creature made of sets of cells containing different DNA".

It's not impossible that you could graft or grow bits belonging to different animals into one single body, but it would take some advances in molecular biology to do it. You can't just snip the "genes for a head" from a lion and the "genes for a tail" from a snake, it's much more complicated than that.

That said, a mouse was grown a few years back that had a fully grown human ear on its back. It was supposed to indicate that replacement organs could be grown for people.

If there was enough funds , why not ?

Probably , the first chimera would be a plant-man , because that's probably the best way to hibernate thru a space journey , and not die.

I tell you what ,, I'ld throw in mecha as well. If you put in some bi- or multi-pole metalics in him ,, you could even switch him off when you like. You know , those dual phase designer materials? Maybe , a proximity contingent loop , too ?

IN THEORY IT'S POSSIBLE. BUT IT DEPENDS ON DEPENDS ON ALL KINDS OF GENETIC FACTORS. COMPATIBILITY OF DIFFERENT GENES, PROTEINS, ETC.
