But that's not the only reason.
If you have seen them play, It's not that hard to pick the most TALENTED one.

The ICC awards are based on a certain period of time. If very recent performances had to be taken into account, it surely would be Tharanga. But not for this time. I think Tharanga could very well get the award next time.

I.C.C. Awards for 2006 were decided on the basis of performance of players during the period from 01.08.1005 to 08.08.2006. During this period, the performance of Mr. Ian Bell was better than all other emerging players.

Mr. Bell, who is 24 years old ,played 13 Tests, scoring 958 runs at an average of 41.65. He hit four centuries and five fifties in that time during the aboive period..

In the 10 ODIs he played during the voting period he averaged 45.87, playing some important innings for England along the way.
