the egyptians have been accredited with building the pyramids, sphinxes and numerous other building innovations. it has always been assumed an amazing human feat by peasant labours, or was it, or could it, be from a prevous civilization that lived on this site?

interesting question. Although all available data cannot confirm that the Egyptians were the ones that created all the architecture. The technology used at this time works with carbon dating but if the Egyptians did anything accidental or purposely to change these amazing structures it'd be difficult if not impossible to ever find out.
Personally I don't think it was the Egyptians because the culture it self seemed to young to have been able to figure out all the math and science to have put the three pyramids they way it was done. Many archaeologists believe that there may have been a previous civilization on that site but there is no proof.
Some sites that might help but will probably only give you the Egyptian doctrine are PB , History Chanel, discovery Chanel and the learning Chanel.
good luck in uncovering the "conspiracy"!

The idea of the pyramid came from a High Priest named Imhotep. It was built as a staircase to the heavens. Kings and others of importance were buried in pyramids, and the builders made hundreds of tunnels leading through to confuse grave-robbers. Since the Egyptians believed the ruler needed to bring things into the next life to live in luxury, tombs were filled with jewelry, urns, statues, and even mummies or small statues of servants, which would be used for the benefit of the ruler.
