sata drives have 2 cables, the first being the red 4 pin data transfer cable and the second being the black power connector
they are pretty similar to ata drives as they need a power source and a data cable
the good thing about sata drives is that if you have 2 or more you can set up a r.a.i.d (redundant array of inexpensive disks) were you can mirror disks to create faster data access

Separate power and data cables.
SATA data cable has seven conductors and 8 mm wide wafer connectors on each end.
Power connector like the data cable, is wafer-based, but its a wider 15-pin shape.
