can anyone tell me what features i should look for when buying a modem router?

Great question. You can easily network your computers together so that they can all access the internet and you have a choice of two different applications, one being "wireless" and the other "hardwired." Most people dont want wires and cables running throughout the house so "Wireless" would be the way to go if at all possible. First, you'll need a "wireless router" hooked up to your main computer, and a "wireless 10/100 ethernet card" installed in the other machines. To do this, you'll need to make sure that you have an empty pci slot available in your computers to install the card into. Wireless ethernet cards will have an antenna attatched which will stick out of the back of the computer and wirelessly connect to the router on the main machine. If your other machines are laptops, you can purchase a "wireless ethernet card" for them and they too will send signals to the router. Most ethernet cards and routers are operating at 802.11 and can be mixed with several brands of equipment without problems. You'll find that the different routers and cards are listed as "B" or "G" or "N". For the short run, "B" will do a good job for you. However, if you're setting your computers up a long way from each other, you may want to use a "G" or "N" router and cards, "N" giving you the longest range possible. "N" will also allow for high speed gaming and streaming audio and video as well. "N" will also provide you with the fastest operating speed possible, which is great for downloading large files and programs. "G" equipment operates at a speed of 54 megabits where "N" operates at twice that speed. Software is normally included when buying your equipment and along with help from your network wizard, will make it easy on you to install, as it does most of it for you. If you'd like to be able to share one printer amoung two or more computers, just have the printer hooked up to one of the computers and each of them will be able to share it with no problem. A wireless modem router will be a instantaneous router/modem blend and a wireless router would in basic terms be a router by technique of way of itself. if you happen to had extreme-speed cable internet you may want to in all likelihood want a modem suitable to a instantaneous router to get on line.

I agree with bsmith134, Linksys are very good and very easy to set up both for the Router and the Receiver ( USB adaptor, PCI card etc.) As for power try to get at least 25mbps ( older model ) and now they go to 54mbps and 108 which is very powerful so quicker

look for a good router /modem walmart have good routers / modems to use ethernet is more fast then waireless network cards & usb adapters
