Do you mean a DVD you can record on many times, writing over previously recorded programmes?

Then you need DVD+RW, DVD-RW or DVD-RAM (best), check that your dvd player supports each format.

For recording once, DVD+R is better than DVD-R

the recorder manufacturer usually only tests their product with their own discs, so if it's a branded player and the same brand discs are available then that's your best bet (not necessarily cheapest tho). If it's not "branded" (lite-on, etc) then any decent brand (Sony, TDK) will do as good a job as each other

I would ONLY use TDK SCRATCHPROOF avilable in +RW and -RW. Cheap on Ebay and also from most computer stores. Or just search for 'tdk scratchproof'
