i practically taught myself how to play the sport. try to find a friend who is also interested in playing. just head out to a court and start hitting the balls back and forth. don't worry too much about technique until after you have had a good chance to just get a feel for holding a tennis racquet and hitting the ball back and forth.
i have no idea about indoor tennis clubs in raleigh, but generally, joining tennis clubs can be expensive. you may want to start out with using outdoor public courts, if there are any in your neighborhood.
it takes quite a long time to develop good tennis skills, so don't get discouraged if it seems as though the game is too difficult.
talk to your family members and friends about your interest in tennis and maybe you can get them interested in playing too.
the one thing with tennis, is that you always have to have a partner or opponent to play with. you can develop your skills best when you have someone to play with who is at an equal level as far as talent and ability. playing someone who is either way better or way worse, won't lead to much of a learning experience.
anyway, good luck!

You have to start somewhere right? I have been playing for almost 10 years, I am 14 years old. I used to practice 5 hours a day with at least 30 min. of fitness. It also depends on what level you would like to be at. Tennis is a very difficult sport because you are the only one on the court, other sports you have someone coaching all the time. A good way to learn is to hire a personal coach. They are always good.

Height does not matter. Like someone else said, look at Muggsy Bogues. Also 5'3'', went to the NBA. Not one of the greats, but considering his height, he probably was. Anyone of any height can play a sport. If you want to play basketball just for fun, then just go for it lol. If you are wanting to play for the school team or something, though, that's something different. You're going to have to work really hard. Only try for this if you really REALLY want to do basketball. Either way, you should give it a shot. Yes most basketball players are tall, but that doesn't really matter, you should just work around that obstacle.

North Carolina must have some good cheap beginner programs. You are lucky in a sense because once you get going you are in a warm weather state that will allow you to play all year. I am sorry I can not give you the name of a club. Call your local USTA office to get some solid info. They are there to help people start and should be of some use. You will love it once you get going and will be able to play your whole life. Good luck and if you do not find a starter program right away you will. Some good natured player will help you out I am sure . Just get a few cans of ball and go to your local courts and hang out. Nothing to be embarrassed about. We have all been there.

well when u get to high school, u should sign up 4 tennis ur first year (thats what i did) and i had absolutely 0 experience!! well i go alot better in the first 4 months of being in the class and even joined the team. so yeah. i think trainers are kind of a waste of money if you can practice with ur friends, and practice hitting against the wall.
good luck!

u can go to tennis teachers to see the price, but if u din't have enough money to go the lesson, then buy a tennis raquet and some tennis balls find a big wall and take a friend that knows learn from him/her. if u don't have such friends take the raquet and try to beat the ball from righ and left.
GOOD LUCK! IF U WANT U CAN DO EVERYTHING!!!

Well since you are only thirteen and live in Raleigh, NC and don’t have that much money for classes. This is where your parents could help you. Let them know your interest in the game of tennis. They could help you start at a public park near you. They could buy your tennis balls and tennis racket. Find out if any of your family and friend already knows how to play tennis they could really get you going in the right direction in tennis. Just to let you know everyone starts with no experience. You’re no difference. There are about six web site just below. Check it out read more about tennis. You might have to copy paste it on. Good luck and have fun.
