Sorry, the instruction for RFA on how to remove all the fragments left behind with Nortons is at the bottom.
In my spare time I test antivirus/spyware programs to see if they perform as claimed. I can tell you that Nortons and McAfee, have been pure junk for years and each an every passing year they continue to get worse.
Nortons never knew a virus when it saw one, an is unable to remove anything. If it does it still in your system. Plus it is a hugh resource hog that only slows down your system.
One thing I can tell you is that I wish I never tested Nortons latest version, because it left me with 350 plus fragments in my system after I removed. The fragments were hidden and some were glued to my files and folders. Not even typing in on "run", c://program files, clicking on browser, opening program files and looking for "symantec". The file was there but it would not delete as it says, "file in use unable to delete".
Being that I consider myself an expert with computers I had to use my Registry First Aid, from http://www.rosecitysoftware.com
This is not a free program, but during the evaluation period it will help you to remove all those left behind keys that have "value", in your registry on an automatic basis. (I have used this program for nine years an I never had one wrong key removed. Plus it makes a backup of everything you delete).
If it is possible to shut down Nortons, as you can not run two antivirus systems at the same time. Will cause serious conflict with our pc.
Download the free home personal use of "Avast". It is state of the art technology that is far superior then any antivirus program you can purchase or get for free. They will ask you for your email address as they will send you a free key that is good for one year. After one year you must request another key. The corporate version is the same, they just make corporate. Plus you get daily auto updates sometimes twice per day. Excellent scan of your entire system.

Don't go into the registry on a manual basis and try to remove the Norton keys as it is to dangerous. One mistake an you will have to reformat your entire system.
Download the Registry First Aid to get rid of the fragments while during the evaluation period. As you must purchase this software. If you decide to remove Nortons and download RFA, run, check the registry for errors, then open search the registry, and type in at the top, Nortons an click on add, then type in symantec and click on add. After the scan you will see all the registry keys come up associated with Nortons. Use your mouse to left click on the arrow pointing down. Open and drop down to where it will say, "delete string". This will remove the registry associated key. Do for each one and don't worry because you will have all backed up.
You can find your backup at: start., search for files, and type in "backups", when the scan is completed you will see, "RFA", open and there are your registry keys that you deleted.
Reboot your system always after a virus or performing a removal of registry keys. After the reboot an all works fine you can delete the backups if you

If you're using windows XP, ME, 2000, or 9x do the following:
Click Start>controll panel>add/remove programs Once the list is populated. Scroll the list for Symantec; then click on the remove button.

Go to Control Panel, Add/remove programs, and remove it. However....Symantec is Norton, and Norton is one of the best security programs on the market so I would not advise un-installing it. If you would like then look to the lower left where your clock is at and right click on the norton icon. Disable it that way instead of removing it.

In your system tray bar, you can see Symantec's Icon , and right click the icon, and select settings or options or sth else to go to the setting center, and there is a silence mode, check it and select 'apply' to save your setting.
If there no silence mode , you can look around and find some settings about pop-up window, then disenable it.

i'd advise bitdefender and kaspersky. they are the two rather effortless yet i found kasp much less annoying as bit throws up alot of domicile windows.(Warnings). that's a stable sign tho as you recognize its finding issues. i'd advise finding the report that the virus is in and deleting that.
