There is a great book you should read that lists many resources. Its called "Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster" by Allen and Linda Anderson.
Its mostly about animal rescue that took place after hurricane Katrina, but it also explains how the large outpouring and variety of rescue activities (and setbacks) that occurred after the hurricane really served to dramatically increase the visibility and awareness of ALL animal rescue.
The book also lists many great resources, including links to various horse rescues.
There are literaly about 12 pages of links at the back of the book for various rescue groups, training organizations, general charity organizations, etc. It really is a useful book if you are interested in these activities.

Here are some specific resources for horses:

Here is a link to the book in Amazon.com, if you are interested in purchasing it:

I am a regular volunteer in a horse rescue in Maryland. We take in all breeds of horses, and we do not turn horses away. If we don't have room, we find a way to make room, we foster the animal, or we call and find a good Rescue who can help.

That's nice of you to want to help animals. It's good you donate. You can also consider volunteering at a local animal shelter or rescues. Animal charities can always use good workers.

i used to work at a great shelter that was started by a fourth grade teacher and her students. it is mostly funded by donations and the teachers family. at last count they had almost 500 dogs and had found homes for almost 3000. great group of kids involved. they are looking for donations cause the town it is in was kicking them off of the land they were on because it interfered with the cemetary dont ask here is the site
