I had carpel tunnel syrgery on Wednesday and can return to work on the 10th and need to know what kind of exercises I can do to build the strength back in my hand.I work as a dietary aide/dishwasher so Im always using my hands.i have been squeezing my hand in a fist all the time and do I need a ball to squueze?How long do I have the stitches in?Im calling my Dr. tomorrow to schedule my follow up.

Ten days to 2 weeks on the stitches and yes, you can use a ball but only when the doc tells you that the exercise is appropriate. If he's already ok'd it, I think the ball would be excellent. You can usually tell if the stitches are ready to come out by looking for any reddened areas. You'll probably use a brace for a while when you return to work also. If you don't, be prepared to have the surgery again in a few years. Godloveya.

Stitches come out in about a week. Go to a sporting goods store and get a hand clasp, a grip with springs. A rubber ball can be used, too.

You do need one of those balls to squeeze. Your stitches will have to stay in for about 10 to 14 days depending on how you are healing.
