Currently according to the National Academy of Science in Washington DC, the U.S. uses up about 25% of the worlds energy recourse's, yet is responsible for 35% of the world's greenhouse gases due to a larger animal crop then most countries (cows make lots of methane) As for the nuclear test, the U.S. no longer does them. The U.S. is not concerned about the environmental effects of North Korean Nuclear tests as it is about the weapons getting into the hands of terrorist. The government of North Korea is not a very stable government, run by a dictator, and the U.S. is afraid that they may use the weapon as a way to hurt South Korea, Japan, China, or other Asian countries. At this point, they are not afraid of North Korea hurting the U.S. which is why they are trying to talk to North Korea not using a military solution. (which most likely would not work anyway without China's support).
Yes America is the biggest producer of greenhouse gases, and President Bush did back out of the Kimono agreement, but hopefully soon we will elect someone with more concern about the environment.

The United States is not responsible for global warming. Industrialization is. Britain largely (, and Europe) is responsible , for having modernised most of the world. And remember at quite a cost to West ,, needing to build infrastructure that the others could not muster.

(** It was then seen as a humanitarian and good thing. That the world and peoples be made modern.)

United States -UP's this one , by globalising trade ,, and in the same stroke ,, saved herself from an agrarian economy.

Now , comes the bombs ! Which still cannot match Mother Nature's carbon storehouses , which collectively could burn 8 to 9 times over all the breathable oxygen at one go. (Our bombs can't.)

We (humanity) have good quality bombs , yes. But , not good enough to drop us where we stand ,, not as effective and thorough as Mother Nature would , if she chooses to.

The thing is ,, if the United States doesn't share technology with the world ,, she's no good. But , if she does ,, she can't overide sovereignity to cut their smog , either. What is correct , then ?

If the French held sway ,, we would now , be guilty until proven innocent.

If the Chinese were dominant , we would be "barbarians" and "running dogs". That's their antropological world view , for anything outside of the country.

There was a time , not too long ago , when "industry" and it's revolution , was an exclusively White domain. And since they are not 35% of the world's population , today ,, they may probably had done better to keep that sovereign. And even then , the conquestidors could over run any country that took it's fancy. And they did , and would still , if not for mighty BRITAIN !!

In my oppinion ,, the States and Britain are a lot of good. Even if they had brought this on ,, it was in good faith , not knowing that industrial might would have shifted off-shore. Bombs do not contribute much to global climate.

And ground seepage probably leaks that much of radon as well.

I don't think that any nation is particularly responsible for Global Warming...Some nations contribute more than others but it is not a national problem....It is simply mankinds increasing use / expendiature of energy...It is not a matter of blaming who started first or who is doing the most...If it were not one, it would be the other...Man is simply increasing in world population and every man uses a bit more energy...Liberals on guilt trips around the world are always either trying to be the victim or blame someone else for whatever the cause celeb is at the moment.
The US simply happens to coincidentaly be the nation that is leading the world in energy use at this time...At some time in the past it was someone else and at some time in the future it will probably be someone else...Which nation is leading is not the issue...The issue is that more people burn more energy...And it is going to increase as world population increases...
