If you are a real elvis fan, that's fine. Next time rephrase you're question, because this is just rediculous. In terms of Male vocalists, Roy Orbison had both the range and the ability to control it to make him the best singer. And Art Garfunkel wouldn't be too far behind him. Elvis was Popular music, that's why so many people love him. He had a great voice which many people have fallen in love with. But he didn't have anywhere near the singing ability to be the best of all time.

OK, lets be real here. Elvis is one of the most popular entertainers of all time, and may be one of the most popular singers of all time, but none of this was predicated by his singing ability. Elvis had charisma, and was active in a variety of entertainment genres, most notable an actor as well. Vocally, however, he is not the best of singers. While there could be much further debate on who is the best singer, that's not your question. Elivs - greatest singer of all time? No. Elvis, most popular singer of all time? At this point, yes.

Whatever the criteria one uses to judge Elvis eg popularity, entertainment, vocal range blah de blah, the fact remains that ALL generations are still aware of his work. Some youngsters hate him and some love him, but is there anyone out there who has never heard of him or his music - doubtful. He died nearly 30 years ago, quite a few years passed his prime and yet people are still enjoying his music. Not many artists can claim, or even hope to, have that kind of longevity.

I am a huge fan of Elvis, but I couldn't possibly say he was the best singer of all time (I think Roy Orbison and Freddie Mercury are my favourite singers)...probably one of the greatest entertainers, and definitely one of popular music's innovators and inspirations to a generation of new singers and entertainers....
Long live the King!!

Yes, thank you, thank you very much. Elvis tried to style his voice after 2 people from back then. This is true; Bing Crosby & Dean Martin. But he did have more personality than both of them put together.

I love Elvis (I'm born on his birthday), but he stole his stuff from blacks like Big Joe Turner.
He was probably the most popular performer/entertainer of the 50's. But MANY people are more skilled and talented vocally (range, pitch, accuracy, variance in style) before and since.
No one can really answer this question since in required an American Idol of everyone since the Dawn of Man...

Blue Eyes (Sinatra) was the best pop singer of that time (1950's). Elvis was more stylish and hipper (or should we say "hips"?)
