G'day twacraws,

Thank you for your question.

I have stayed in the Kings Cross area with my Dad who is in his mid 70s and we haven't had any problems.

You need to be careful where you go like in any city but it is safe enough especially in the day time.

Regards

The Bayswater is on the main drag a hundred yards down from the fountain in a well lit and open area just around the corner from the Strip. Stay on the main road and don't get involved with the local bogans. Walk past the drunks, don't stop if challenged and keep moving. The fools and low lifes that frequent the Cross are all scum but just ignore them. Cops are all over the place so at any time you feel seriously threatened scream POLICE and 2 things will happen. The idiot having you on will stop and run and the cops/security will be on you in seconds. Don't worry, the idiots are the ones who get the crap not the tourists. Sydney WANTS tourist dollars and the idiots up the Cross are smacked down hard and fast with zero tolerance for their anti social behaviour. This should be taught in ALL Lebanese High Schools as once they migrate here and turn into total aaarssehoes and Cross goers they should have been told, play up and you get arrested.Boofhead wogs are the problem, little willies, and lotsa bling but no brain and inability to handle alcohol or act their age is our biggest problem in Sydney. That and their just plain peasant ignorance of anything such as decent society. They haven't got a clue in that area. If anything major is on --take a cab. Drunk Lebs think a public event gives them a license to be even bigger boofheads and wankers than they normally are.

Kings Cross has really cleaned up it's act over the last decade. In the 70's & 80's it was quite dodgy, but there is a heavy police presence now, and it's become very cosmopolitan & cool to be there these days.

Like in any big city, be on your guard, but personally, I have no problem walking around the streets at night in Kings Cross. Again, be on your guard tho.

Have a great time, I love Sydney (am coming home in January!! Yippee!)

Safe, but the place is crowded and could be stinking hot in summer (stinking literally and figuatively).

I would consider staying closer to the beach (not Bondi - too crowded).

For five days you might get a good hotel rate here: www.wotif.com.au

It is a very tame area compared to the sinful streets of New York or Vancouver. Do watch for pickpockets. Don't take more out with you than you need to have.

Enjoy the stay.

day time no problem, but a boring part of the city in my opinion.
night time can be rowdy, and still boring.
