Sleeves in garments were `puffed` to enhance the square shape. Hats were small and perched on the front of the head, some had small veils. Much of the clothing was knitted and made by unravelling an old jumper and knitting another with the same wool. A lot of children's clothes were made from old clothes from an adult. Nothing was wasted. If someone was lucky enough to get hold of a silk R.A.F. parachute, they were in heaven! From this they would make underwear and even wedding dresses. Everything was darned and mended and dyed and remodel ed.Clothes (new ones especially) were an expensive luxury and were `rationed` you had to have coupons to buy them.
