In manual mode, you can delete songs from your iPod without deleting them from iTunes. Make sure your iPod is selected in the Source menu, and then choose the song you wish to delete in the main window. Press the Delete key on your keyboard and the song will be removed from the iPod. To delete multiple songs at once hold down the Command key on the Mac (or Shift key on your PC), select the songs, album, artist, or entire genres you want to delete, and then press Delete.

this is tricky if you have the new version of itunes, get the old version its the best - well it works ok 4 me - right click on song on ipod delete, blah blah yes blah youve done thet, and it should still be on the library. on the new itunes it updates the songs without you telling it to but if u fiddle with the controls a bit you may be able to stop it. either do that or use a different computer

verify the "Manually take care of song and movies" button. it is going to assist you click and drag particular songs into you iPod and delete ones on it. it somewhat is the simplest thank you to do it, i think of. The button is on the exhibit screen that seems once you plug your iPod in.
