Are you positive it is in the duct work? How did it get there? Heating systems are sealed units and typically the rodent will only hang out near the heat source - like the heating element or pilot light. I would check around the unit itself and around the area where the intake air is being drawn in. Once dead, the smell will continually decrease anyway until the source dries up completely and all smell is gone.

It in all likelihood might want to be in a heating duct. i have not any theory the way it were given there yet quicker or later I heard all kinds of scratching that appeared like it became coming from the furnace. I regarded all round because i did not see besides something might want to get in heating ducts. i ultimately referred to as a contractor to envision (and sparkling) the ducts and there became a stay squirrel in it. The duct guy couldn't confirm it out both. We were given the squirrel out and wiped clean the ducts and that became that. in case you won't be able to locate everywhere else the position it could be coming from you may want to wish to have them checked. fortunately my "rat with a fuzzy tail" wasn't useless.

There's a good chance that the critter is in your furnace's blower compartment. Try removing the bottom door on your furnace and checking inside. During the summer rodents will quite often nest in this compartment. I find them quite often when running service calls.
If you don't find the problem in the blower compartment, you'll have to bite the bullet and call a heating company. Good luck.

You definitely need a professional to come in and get it out for you. The exterminator should be able to tell you if there are more. Then, my best advice is just to clean. Odorban works pretty good too.
