Driving within Paris is an absolute nightmare. Avoid this at all costs, if possible.
Remember that Smart Cars are basically two seats and that's it. There's not really any trunk or storage space, so if you are going to have suitcases or anything, you may want to rethink your car choice.
Try using mappy.com to map out where you are going. They generally have great maps, complete with signage and even where the speed cameras are! But, also get a French road map for your region along with a Paris map (the rental car place should have one).
Have fun!

hi there
honestly dont think its a good idea as the smart is a really a city car made for convenience and tight parking spots. it literally is the size of half a car so you can park in parallel to the curb or facing the curb (its that small!!). driving to the loire valley and mont st michel are long drives (over 3 hours) and you will not be able to fit 2 people and luggage into a smart. get a slightly larger car, that can handle longer distances, with heating, for ex a megan, twingo, polo, clio etc if you still want a small car but a little more comfort and space for travel. right now we are having an indian summer so not sure when the snow will hit but it will def be chilly and wet in the loire and mont st michel at that time of the year.

The roads in France are very good and the motorways are excellent. I would say from experience that I'd prefer a larger vehicle than a Smartcar especially in December. I'd try to get some sort of small four wheel drive especially for use around Northern France. Northern France is very rural and in parts extremely hilly. (I was there last week actually). I think if you get a vehicle which offers a little more visual height than a smart car it would be advisable especialy for bad weather motorway driving. Plus if you're planning to drive from Paris to say Mont Saint Michel it will be around 2hrs 30 and you'll need plenty of leg room. We live in England and travelled around for a week in our Alfa Romeo Veloce which is really roomy but by the time the week was up I was wishing we had a stretch limo!!
Bon chance

Once you get outside the insanity of driving in Paris and into the countryside, you should not have any problems.. It is possible for you to run into both snow and rain during that time of year, but it would be more on the unusual side to have a large accumulation of snow to adversely impact driving. Have fun.. you will be driving through a very beautiful area.

automobiles don't have political affiliations. people do. i'm a staunch conservative and ichronic a Prius. Why ought to I spend greater on gasoline than is needed? every person who buys a sensible will desire they hadn't. they are very customary in Europe, yet after people have had one for a jointly as they desire they in no way might have offered it. The sensible is often on the very backside of the owner delight and reliability polls in Europe. women like them by using fact they are "stunning" and consumer-friendly to park. maximum men stay far off from them.
