The inside of the purse has a soft suede-like finish. I don't want to ruin it with a liquid cleaner, so I am hoping for other options.

Febreeze. I haven't found anything this product cannot freshen up, and I have not ruined anything, including the lining of my leather jacket. After spraying, let the purse stand open to dry.

Who can smell that good? LOL. Are you blowing smoke in your purse? Are the cigs lit while in your purse? If the cigs are dry and in their pack then the odor is minimal and not permanent. Letting the purse stay open and empty for a few days will do fine. Leather has a natural smell that seldom can be altered by dry odors.

I know it's liquid, but have you tried Febreze? YOu could spray it lightly several times (drying between sprayings) and then brush out the sede with a suede brush
