In all honesty, there are just too many "bests" to select just one. So provide them with a safe and loving home, an education,be there whenever you are needed, know how to effectively discipline in a positive manner, teach them and the list goes on and on...... Other people here may come up with one answer, so combine them all....

Listen to them, teach them to be independent, honest, respect themselves as well as others. Teach them to search for the truth; never just take someones word. Teach them how not to become financially dependent and most importantly.. Let them know life is a gift that should not be taken for granted so live each day as if its the last.

TEACH THEM!!!

Teach them about the world, communicate with them AND respect the fact that they have a brain in their heads. Give them support which in turn leads to confidence. Don't feed them junk food all the time. And always wear sunscreen ;-)

I do know that when you talk with kids instead of berating them, you get more from them. One day I was in the supermarket, there were some boys there who were larking about, not doing anything to harm anything or anybody, when they got shouted at. Had the person talked with them or spoke to them as you would to a grown up, or how you would like to be spoken to, you'd get more from them. I found that out when later they were sat down on a form near the check out and I needed to sit down. I asked them if I could sit down as they were taking all the room . do you know they jumped up and were really nice to me. I started talking with them, they were great. I told them about my grandson who lives in the USA. They were interested and wanted to know all about America. They were saying how they would like to travel. I feel so sad that the majority of kids get tainted with the same brush as the few hooligans. Talk with them, thats what they need and want. you get more with sugar than with vinegar. We need to show our own children love and attention, plus they need to be heard by their parents not ignored.

Aside from loving them and teaching them good moral values, teach them to read before they start school, they will ALWAYS be at the top of the class as a result.

teach by example to be loving and kind to all people and creatures they encounter. that would be a great start, then show them how to eat good nutritious food and how to exercise their bodies and minds.

Teach them to respect others and others property. Teach them to be kind, loving and grateful. Teach them to be proud of themselves, to love themselves and for goodness sake dont ever call your kids stupid.
