I don't know about My Lot, but most survey sites gather market information for companies (sometimes they gather political information too...I've got a few paid surveys like that). They want to do a little research to find out if a certain product will sell, or if their advertising is working, or things like that...and will pay a little to find out...usually $1-5 per survey, sometimes up to $15, rarely more than that.

Big buisness does not become that way by giving money away. There is no pill that lets you eat like a cow & not gain weight. No cream that makes a womens breast bigger or that certain part of a mans body. You will not quit smoking if you chew a gum. Every body wants something for nothing & life just does not work that way. You may find websites that will truly toss people a few bucks for doing A LOT of work. But they are in it to make money for them, not for you.

No don't do online surveys at all. They are all a load of crap. You might get $20 out of it in return for hour of survey taking. You could put that time in learning how to make money online in other ways

Total scams...don't even open email about then. They will ask for a credit card an try and sell you crap. Stay away from them.
