Most people say 1000, but its 1024 to be exact, in a B(byte) there is 8 bits, in a kB there is 1024 bytes, in a mB there is 1024 kB, in a gB there is 1024 mB, and finally in a tB there is 1024 gB.

If you want to know how many megabytes are in a gigabyte, the answer will differ depending on who you talk to.
If talking about networking or hard disks, one gigabyte is equivalent to 1,000,000,000 (one billion) bytes, or 1,000 (one thousand) megabytes.
If talking about computer memory, or other computing systems, or talking to more traditionally minded computer people, one gigabyte is 1,024 (one thousand and twenty four) megabytes, or 1,073,741,824 bytes (one billion, seventy three million, seven hundred and forty one thousand, eight hundred and twenty four). The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) recommend that these be called mibibytes and gibibytes, to differentiate them from the 1000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte definition.
