My son is 10 1/2 months old now and ever since he could see far enough we've noticed he's been drawn to a cross we have in our kitchen. He just smiles so bright at it and often laughs like when we made goofy faces at him. He grabs for it when he's near it too. It freaks me out a little because I think he's seeing a ghost or something. Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this with their kids? Thanks! :)

To answer Autumn: I can't remember where we got the cross, I don't think it's old though. We either bought it at a local store around here or in Mexico because it's made from there. It has some blue jewel toned stones and those metal features on it with a white wood. It's one of my favorite things on the walls in our house.

We've taken the cross off the wall to let him look at it and he treats it like any other object and wants to eat it. LOL I'll have to take it down and see if he does stare at that area or if it's just the cross.

Yes and it does scare you a little my baby when he was about 3 months old used to continuously look over my shoulders and smile at something but the way I saw it he was laughing with the angels watching over us

First of all.....where did the cross come from?....How old is it? Does it itself have a history? Have you ever removed the cross and checked if he still stares at the same area? And yes...he may be seeing something. Babies are pure until the world around them changes them. They can see, hear, and feel things most adults cannot. They have a connection to the unknown. My 5 year old used to talk about the man in his room, and he didn't seemed scared. As long as it wasn't scaring him, I was happy to be apart of the connection. After moving the cross, so you can see where the attachment truly lies, just enjoy that he knows something you don't!!

Suppose you step in an alien world what will be your reaction. You will stare at things and try to place them against your experience. If there is something which does not quite fit in with your earthly experiences your eyes may be almost rivetted to that object - may be a Time Machine.

A child which steps in this alien world from the safe environs of a mother's womb is not better. He will stare at many things and his little brain would be trying to make sense of it. If the article is rather unusual--as a cross is-it will receive more attention from him ,almost embaressingly more. But try to understand his genetic need to make sense of everything around him and you will not feel uncojmfortable. Wipe out all nonsensical ideas of spirits and souls.

My daughters never seemed to pay much attention to anything that didn't move. However, my nephew is enthralled by a picture of The Last Supper my sister keeps on her wall. He can Sit and look at it for hours at a time. I wouldn't be too concerned, as long as he makes time for other age appropriate activities.

Baby's are attracted to shiny objects, bright colors, and light. Sounds normal to me.
