there's a song that's played during christmas/winter time around the northwest, it's sung by a man who sees an old love in a store, they meet and talk about days gone by, I think they sit by the fire for a while, but I can't remember, the chorus has a mentioning about the harsh weather outside. Then the man and woman leave, having caught up but have seperate lives now. I vaguely recall that this is a piano-heavy song. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

It possibly could be "Baby, it's cold outside". I'm not sure who did it originally, but Tom Jones sang a duet with Cerys Matthews back in 1999.

I think you're thinking of Dan Fogleberg, "Another Auld Lange Syne".
