i dont say "bless you".... i say "gesundheit"

we believe in our ancestors teaching according wihch there are little angels flying above usually chanting "THATHASTU' meaning be that so and we consider the sneezing as an omen some times positive otherwise negative depending upon the situation and the number of sneezes, hence to ward off the negative or evil omen , if we say "Bless You" the same may be considered as a good one and by that time the LITTLE ANGELS proclamation will go in confilrmity with the ausppicious blessings leading to prosperity and long life.

Bcoz the god may take ur breath out with that sneeze and that could be ur last sneeze so when u survive people say 'bless you'

I would imagine that in the old days, getting ill could have been a dangerous affair, what with TB and dysentery and so on and so forth.

I suppose they said 'bless you' to you when you sneezed in a sort of 'good luck' type of thing , for a lot of people in those days, getting sick was the last thing they did...

This comes from the time of the bubonic plague. One of the symptoms was sneezing. People would bless that person because it was a sign they were going to die.

In the Middle Ages influenza killed thousands of people annually. Sneezing was a first sign. hence, the quick blessing.....

its something about along time ago when people sneezed, theyd get told bless you because the sneeze was believed to be the evil spirits excaping the body

the person who says 'Bless You' on sneezing, must be having a doctor in his family. he sees a potential customer and thus the utterance.

i think you could die when you sneeze so,the Bless You is because you survive the sneeze.
