No, not directly, but they are destined to be the major power in the Pacific Basin and some of the other countries there fear them. Since the USA has mutual defence treaties with Japan and Korea and others who do fear them we worry about being pulled into a regional war. Personally I have lived in many of those countries and feel China is one of the least aggressive countries in the east. They kept thier bargain on HongKong through 100 years, they have only expanded their territory once when they claimed Tibet, and they sent soldiors into Korea against the United Nations Forces but largely refrained from entering Vietnam except for technical aid. As long as the US military is powerful in the Pacific I feel they will not be a threat but they are a patient enemy. The major problem is Taiwan, they will never give up on that just like Tibet and the world must solve this problem. Hello, anyone in the UN to hear that? Thought not.

For now, they are no threat, as a matter of fact, they have been a great help to the United States in getting North Korea back to the 6 party talks.

China is only a threat if we let them. Historically they are a private inward country that, if left unchecked, will cause problems in the future. They respect strength, not threats, and should be treated accordingly.
