On launch day it wil be nearly impossible to get one (unless you are willing to overpaqy someone for theirs). There are currently more preorders than units being shipped.

I haven't heard what the inital PS3 production numbers will be like. I can tell you with the buzz it's been generating and going on past trends of Sony, they always underproduce the units, handing out an inital few and making the rest of the consumers wait for 2 or 3 months while more are being made. Some stores here didn't have XBox 360's for 6 months after it's inital relase becuase they made so few of them. So, you can probably expect to wait up to a month or more. However, maybe Sony is following in Nintendo's footsteps and actually mass producing a couple million units before shipping and you won't have problems....but, Sony had shortages with the first Playstation, and the PS2, and the PSP had major shortages (at least here) when it came out. That is if you want to pay regular retail for one. I can imagine just like every other system, ones will pop up on ebay for highly inflated prices. I haven't really followed it..i'm not paying $500 for a gaming console.
