Yeah, but then she can pretty much write her own ticket. I know nurses who work three days a week (12 hour shifts) and make minimum $40K a year with great benefits. Nurses are in hot demand - especially in the hospitals and some of them are willing to pay big bucks.

It depends on what "rewards" in life your friend is attempting to achieve. Nurses work hard, and have alot of responsibility. If your friend enjoys working with the public, and likes to help others, then nursing would be a great career!! They say nurses are over worked, and under paid, but nurse's DO make a decent wage. And....there will ALWAYS be a demand for nurses, so theres a darned good chance that your friend will always be employed!! A simple 2-3 year commitment to nursing school, is only a very tiny obstacle that hampers a lifetime of happiness, and true satisfaction!!

I wish I could tell you it was easy or that she would make a ton of money. But nursing is more than a job. It is a vocation. It is a calling. And the very best nurses, like all true heroes, do it every day around the world. They are to be honored and respected by us all.

Heck yeah, its worth it. My friend is on call for Kaiser this weekend. She is a RN. She makes up to $500, just for one day. I'd say that's worth it. We live in California. Tell your friend to go for it. It won't be easy, but most things that are good for you are not easy. Tell her good luck and you are a good friend for caring. Peace.

Then, she should look into something she could become in an instant. No commitment there.
