Well, I've had the experience of being a rich person, during five years. I've got an average European salary, and with that same salary I lived and worked in a small village in a poor Asian country. All my neighbours and the volunteers of our project were poor people.
In one way, it was quite nice to be rich because I always had money to help out a friendly neighbour with things like medicines. And I was able to help out when my landlady did not have enough money to pay the schoolbill for her youngest son. Same when one of our volunteers had his house burnt down.
And if the withdrawn life in this remote village was driving me to my personal edge, I would take a long distance bus to the capital city and enjoy pizza, ice cream, cold beer and the swimming pool.......... all made for UN personell..............
But after some time, I was more and more getting upset with the rich life in the capital city because the rich (forreign) folks lived their own lives way separated from the real thing going on in the villages. And I realized that even though the villagers were poor people, they were so much wiser about life and family and future and being social and caring. They had an other form of being rich, and it was right there in their hearts.
What I've learnt from being rich amongst poor people will be a lesson for the rest of my life.
Now that I'm back in my own country, with still that same salary, my money does not mean a thing and it's hard to get by on my monthly income. I was so used to spend it for whatever I liked, but life is so much more expensive here in Europe............ I'm not really poor, but I sure am not rich at all. Can't go out every weekend, can't buy new stuff all the time. And I certainly can not pay a friend's hospital bill or take a trip whenever I like.
And you know what? I don't mind belonging to the not-wealthy people. I've still got both my parents, my sister is a great person and I am healthy. This Christmas will be the best ever!
Ehmmmmmmmmm, did that answer your question?

As a Jehovah's Witness, I have studied in the Bible that there's no wrong to be rich, to be wealthy, but if your money is the first priority in your life, if your life evolves in your wealthiness that you forgotten the most important thing in one man's life -- your relationship with God -- then it will be wrong and sinful. If you have Bible read the first book of Saint Matthew chapter six verse nine and ten ( 1 Matthew 6:9,10), it is said that whoever is determined to be rich will stab himself with bait, hurtful desires, drowning a man to punishment;and in verse ten it says " the love for money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains."
Indeed money provides a defense against poverty and its attendant troubles, enabling a person to procure both necessities and luxuries. For this reason the possibility exists of a person's beginning to trust in money as security and to forget his Creator. Although much good can be done with money, the most valuable things - spiritual food and drink and eternal life itself- can be obtained without it.

The bad side of being wealthy could be that you can become callus to the nature of those less fortunate. Some people who have enough and then some, tend to go insane with with their greed and desires...does the name Michael Jackson mean anything?

If you're single and wealthy, you don't know for sure if the person you're going out with likes you solely for who you are, or if they just want your money. Also, you get a false sense of security that you're doing fine because you have all this money. What really constitutes "doing fine" is having God, friends and family, and having a job that you enjoy doing. Moreover, people tend to be jealous of those who have money.

Look at all the wealthy people. Do they all seem happy to you. I have been in a few very wealthy people's home. When I used the bathroom, I open the cabinet and it is full of medication. Spell 'sad' to me.

One bad side of being wealthy is that other people will want what you have and do anything to get it. Scary! That wouldn't stop me from wanting to be wealthy though!!

well the bad side of being wealthy are, you cant go outside if you go you will be surrounded by media and people, there is very less privacy in rich people as the media is always trying to know what is cooking inside their mind, robbers murderers and kiddnappers are always trying to get you so they can get your money..and the biggest of them all is you have to work very very hard to prove that you are still whealty...i think it is good being whealty but its not good to be extremely whealty.. just about being average..

having known several affluent people growing up , I tend to believe that their lust for life is stunted by the false security of monetary security .nothing is for sure , having grown up in a blue collar family, I have seen the wasting of opportunity and talent because they had no reason to go out in the world and make their mark, because someone else allready had.money is the source of all evil , money is a vehicle to a better existence , not an end unto itself. it comes with it's own set of specific problems .

You may not be sure if people like you for you or your money but if you had friends before you got rich chances are theyd like you still just expect to buy more rounds of beer than you used to.
