it is to burn guy fawkes who tried to free his people from the shackles of oppression and control by the government. he fought for us to be free and not be puppetts, yet we burn his effigy on a fire on the 5th of november. i think he was a hero, the fact that we have fireworks makes no sense beacuse parliment never went up in flames. our society is so bizaare, think about it, just as bad as the fact that santa does not exist.

While V for Vendetta may be a good film, it is largely based on one opinion - that Guy Fawkes was a freedom fighter, and we all know that one person's freedom fighter is another person's terrorist. Guy Fawkes WAS trying to stop the government discriminating against Catholics (because he himself was Catholic) but this DOES NOT MEAN that if he had succeeded and put a Catholic monarch on the throne that he would not have stood by while they used exactly the same tactics of discrimination against Protestants - he may even have helped them try to stamp out Protestantism.

We let off fireworks because the houses of parliament (and the king) were NOT blown up - it's a celebration of Protestantism's victory of Catholicism. Essentially it's 400 year old propaganda, though no doubt still usefull to remind people what happens to terrorists.

It's just a piece of history and of course when captured by the government he was not going to be portrayed in a good light after wanting to blow up houses of parliament and that gave the government the perfect propaganda tool at the time. SO whether you agree or not, at least it is gunpowder being used in a peaceful display rather than as a weapon of war that continued for centuries after and to this day in it's various formats. Also our society is built on democracy, oppression is only when no other choices exist.

i read this morning that members of the Establishment want 2 bring a halt 2 celebrating firework night.
citing carbon emissions as the reason,
but i think it's more likely that it should b a reminder 4 " them "
We pay their wages and they're skirting pretty close 2 upsetting Joe Public on the same scale, again!

we'll c, eh?
