Mainly from England and Holland. The Puritans were trying to escape from religious persecution so fled and made life in Connecticut.

greenock, near glasgow, in scotland. Greenock was a hugh port way back then and thousands of people left there (if you stayed in greenock, you would want to leave it). There is a large museum in greenock which has a section dedicated to the people who left and settled in connecticut. I also believe the two areas were twinned in 1975. In greenock today there are some american style restuarants called 'macdonalds' which I believe is a throw back to the Conn. connection.
