According to Fireworks Magazine it looks like most of the big displays in Essex were on Friday or Saturday night. However, all is not lost! BBC Essex has a list of displays this weekend, including tonight.
You don't say where you are in Essex, but to me the one in Braintree looks the best, but you should phone the prospective venues this afternoon to double check that the event is still on, and to see if anything will be on at the venue which the BBC didn't mention.
Have fun, and be safe!

Why not try venturing into London, there looks like a very good one in Victoria Park - Bow and with the new A12 link road you can reach it from essex quite simply by pciking up the A102 and exiting at the Bow flyover. I'm going and I'm sure many others are, it's a themed display and although I agree with the other answer that fireworks should be banned there should be more organised events available as they are generally over quickly and provide a much better spectacular than over priced or cheap rubbish fireworks that flood the country at this time of year.

I don't know but i will be the first to put a stop to fireworks if i was in power. The sight of my dogs, cowering, crying and unable to venture outside for a wee is sad. I sincerely hope they make fireworks illegal. Totally inconsiderate towards wild animals, birds , cats etc etc. I HATE FIREWORKS. If in a controlled manner, yes but having one large bang , interval, then another, interval drives me mad.:)
