its all about money and power and self interest. Nothing to do with the altruistic need to help mankind. Biggest Hypocrites Tony Blair, George W Bush , John Howard, Jacques Chirac , Vladimir Putin, Hu Jintao not one of them is interested in anything other than their own self absorbtion

Because of it being the most lucrative career, there is intense competition. To remain at a position of advantage over others, therefore, a politician has to be a person who can say whatever the person opposite him wants to hear. To win, he needs votes from all types of people. Different people have different interests, which may be clashing at times. Thus he needs to tell both of them that he is with them, while actually he is with noone except himself.

Because they must talk out of both sides of their mouths to please everyone. They can't just say what they believe to be morally correct and let the chips fall where they may. They like the power and all the trappings that come with power.
