Just talking helps.I`ve always talked/communicated with them since they were born.Read with them, teach them to read.I dont just tell them what to do or ignore them and just talk to adults. Sounds obvious but some parents dont .Too busy trying to have a life.Listen to them.Dont be frightened to put Your foot down, and stand by what You say,it`s easy to give in for a less stressful life;but on the other hand You need to be flexible. When they go to school homework`s a good way of interacting, esp reading. It gets harder with boys though in my experience ! Loads of ways of interacting.Basically just take an interest,or try to include them in something Your doing even if they haven`t had an interest in what-ever it is before.Obviously men and boys ,women and girls-learning to be like an older member of the same sex type of interaction.

They interact on all different levels. The parent becomes a child sometimes when they are playing, talking, reading etc and the child tries beng grown up when helping mum/dad do the cleaning, cooking, and copying their ways etc. There's so many ways to look at this question so i can see why you've asked for help. x

Both are the observer and the observed.

The child is more the observer than observed, the parents more the observed than observer.
