The story is set in in 1801, England. Charlotte saves a man, who she did not know was a highwayman, from getting killed by another man, but while she was saving the highwayman, she got knocked out during the process. So, the highwayman is in a dilemma(?): whether he should take her or leave her in the dark where she was under the potential of getting raped and such. Very unlike himself, the apathetic highwayman goes against his better judgment and takes the girl. He threatens to kill her parents if she tries to escape. But she slowly falls in love with him....and he slowly ruins her life with his uncaring personality....But she slowly penatrates his cold character (like every old romance ,lols) How is this story?? How can I add some physcology into it??

Sounds a lot like V for Vendetta the movie. Her good influence could help to change his nature to be a better bloke.

You answered your own question. Its the 1800 hundreds my dear, there are few if any Psychologists - maybe Freud. I'm not sure.. but for sure .. very few people in the world knew of them.. Finish the story the way no one would expect.... the damsel in distress is very smart, works out a plan to get inside his brain, mesmerizes her captor - ties him up - runs to the police - and gets a Big Fat Reward - as she has captured the Most Wanted - now don't forget she had fallen in love with this character - so what else - she spends part of the reward money to save his life, she pays some shady characters to break him out of jail - they are successful and the two of them run off to live a wonderful life somewhere on a tropical island. Your next story, chapter, or second edition - could be - what happens - how the children grow up to be humanitarians - wealthy - as the parents have found a treasure on the island - the kids go on to become famous. The third book, could be a thriller - on how someone found out about the parents, and now the children are successful adults, in high society, politics, and can be ruined by this secret. WoW - I could go on forever.... Good Luck - lets us know the conclusion - and where we can read the Whole Story. I for one am fascinated.

In your storyline there is literally no "MOTIVATION" for the highwayman to keep Charlotte, since he is an apathetic highwayman. Why is he holding onto Charlotte? You have not established this motive. Why does he NOT want her to escape? She is mere baggage to him. Why does he "NEED" her? Charlotte has to serve a distinct purpose for him to keep her, and in order for the story to progress to the point of her continual presence and the subsequent "falling in love" with him.
Is Charlotte the daughter of a wealthy aristocrat, and as a result he holds her ransom? Or perhaps this is his initial motive to extrapolate money to finance his “operations”. Eventually, the plot thickens.
It would be ideal to inteject a clever crux, say, of political intrigue, the highwayman happens onto a “Missing Person Poster” citing that the woman in his possession is the daughter of an English diplomat from London. This greatly angers him because of the great peril it threatens to his "operations". 1801 - 1814 was the period of the British Wars with France (Napoleon) and Denmark. Simultaneously, perhaps, Charlotte inadvertently discovers the highwayman's "secret", that he is really a spy against England for the enemy, and thus he cannot risk letting her go least his incognito be unmasked and he (an Englishman) would consequently face dreaded charges of treason and be executed by firing squad.
Hence, the "other man" that tried to kill the highwayman was actually an undercover agent for the British Intelligence Police of Scotland Yard, who almost captured the highwayman spy.
It can be very dramatic and emotional. Imagine, the one person you finally fall in love with undergoes a grueling inquisition in the very intimidating House of Lords, and must face the firing squad. And, how will Charlotte cope in the dilemma? Does she "use" her status as "The Diplomat's Daughter" (a good title for the story) in a vain attempt to craftily liberate him? Is Charlotte tried as an accomplice and for aiding the enemy, and together they are mutually executed, side-by-side, their rope-constrained hands outstretched to reach the others’ in love's yearning before that hideous moment.
If this treasonous intrigue is incorporated into the storyline, perhaps a double-entendre title would evoke curiosity: "Traitor of My Heart", which would at face value imply love's betrayal, yet simultaneously, upon reading the story would also convey that the "Traitor" is actually the heart's beloved.
Read on the British Wars to generate some premise ideas to augment your romance novel, and to get acquainted with the aspects of the, political atmosphere, regional conflicts and intrigue of 1801 and onward. I think this approach will add immense dimension, substance and believability to your story, and really set it apart from the typical bland romance novel.
The best of luck to you and your creativity!
