do you know the usb cable for the sansung D500 can you just plug the cable from the pc to the phone or do you need to load a software disc to use it

When you plug in the cable you need to inform the PC what the cable connection is for, the PC needs to know what is attached and which programmes/functions the device is compatible with. It would seem by your question that perhaps you don't have the disc which should have come with the phone, if you go to the Samsung website the programmes will be available to download from the support section of the site

If u just want 2 charge the phone from the pc then u can just plug it in, but if u want to download then u will need the software.

i'm afraid that you need a software disc however you can buy a bluetooth dongle which you pluginto your pc £15 then just send pics , music, numbers etc. ebay is the best place to get one
