I have worked for the Social Security Administration for 20 years. I was deployed last year to FEMA to work in New Orleans following Hurrican Katrina and Rita. It was one of the most rewarding experiences in my life so I decided I wanted to make a career change and work With FEMA. Now I have the opportunity to work for FEMA. I need to make the decision to leave SSA and go to FEMA and I am suddenly afraid. I am praying for God's guidance in the matter but I don't think it matters to God which I choose. Either way I service the public by improving their quality of life. I know there is no one that can make this decision for me but can anyone offer any guidance on how I go about making the decision and what to do with the fear

I really think this is a decision where you have to follow your heart. It sounds like you got alot out of working with FEMA so don't be afraid to make the change. You've put in 20 yrs. with SS so you know your way inside out of that job.Maybe it's time to make a change and experience something new. You will be successful either way. You sound like a genuinely caring person & I'm sure you will make the right decision. Leaving the comfort of a long time job is difficult but sometimes a new venture is just what we need. Pray about it...God does care what you do. Good luck.

20 yrs is a long time. Of course you have fears. You probably are very comfortable where you are and with what you are doing. Fear of the unknown? You know in your heart if it is right and starting over and learning new things is hard. But I think it's important to learn new things regardless of age. I admire the fact that you would try.

Sounds like you're leaning more towards working for FEMA. I think you would feel more like you were getting real help to people by working for them.

Well, if your health is bad, stay where you are because you may not be able to handle the stress if everything doesn't work out. Do you have a savings to fall back on? Questions like that.

Its natural to be afraid. You are making a big change. If this is what you want, step through your fear and take it. Best wishes.
