My wife scars very badly, and the scars raise and are very ugly. This makes her very self-conscious and unhappy, and if the wife is unhappy then it goes without saying..........Is there any type of procedure or care that can be taken to reduce the scarring that comes with this type of child birth?

There really is no real way to get rid of scars, however some dermatologists have procedures to reduce the redness of scars making them less noticable. Don't rely on the creams they sell over the counter because they do not work (such as mederma). Tell your wife that the scar from the csection will be in an area that only you are going to see (on the pelvic bone area) and that it should be considered a badge of honor for bringing 2 wonderful healthy kids into the world.

There are two basic types of incision: horizontal (transverse) and vertical (midline). A transverse incision is made 1 to 2 inches above the pubic hair line. The advantages of this type of incision are:
* Less postoperative pain during movement and breathing
* A strong wound closure with low rates of wound dehiscence (separation)
* A good cosmetic result. Transverse incision leaves what is often called a "bikini scar."

Disadvantages of a transverse incision include a longer operative time and possibly a greater loss of blood. In addition, access to the abdominal cavity may be somewhat limited, especially in heavy women and those who have scar tissue from a previous transverse incision.

A vertical incision is made in the midline of the abdomen. The advantages of this type of incision are:
* Rapid access to the abdominal cavity and decreased total operating time
* Less blood loss
* The ability to extend the incision if increased surgical exposure is needed.

Disadvantages of vertical incision include increased postoperative pain, higher rates of wound dehiscence (separation), and a more obvious scar.

After the stitches are removed, she can use Vitamin E (in the capsules) on the scar to help reduce scarring... Some individuals are prone to scarring and really when genics and heredity are involved, there isn't too much that can be done except cosmetically.

Congratulations on the Twins!!

A mental shift on her part would be nice. She's given birth to a wonderful, beautiful, fantastic child. It's a mark to be proud of and when she looks at it she should feel like a hero for surviving that battle and take it as an affirmation of life.
But in the event that she doesn't see things that way, there are some creams that work on older scars. If it's a newer one, she can try campho phenique. It smells terrible but works.

commonest immediately is bikini decrease (side to side and decrease). Supposedly the only reason to do the vertical decrease (from the navel downwards) is for emergency purposes basically in recent times. So it relies upon on the transport particularly. they did no longer initiate doing Bikini cuts until eventually the previous due 70's or early 80's i've got faith so the Navel downwards form C-Sections have been much less stressful some time past while.

Congratulations for the twins!!!! I wish happiness and blessings to you and your wife. Do not be worried about scars. There are many procedures that can be used for scars. Maybe, after the babies are born, you can try IPL, it's a laser procedure that can erase scars.

the cut will be small... it will not be like the old days from breas t to navel... normally an incision around the pubic hair line...

and it heavily depends on the doctors stitching!

When scar is healing, rub Vitamin E oil on it about 2X a day to help reduce scarring

Avoid scratching whilst its healing as this will leave it as a scar

I dont know where you live, but find a department store selling Elizabeth Arden products. ask for ceramide face capsules. i used to sell the product and use it even on my dogs when they get a cut or scrape to ease and minimize the healing. the oil will lessen the redness more quickly and help the skin heal to the best of its ability. i used it myself and had a c section. may not work for some types of scars that stay permanently raised, but it cannot hurt the healing process, which in turn should help lower how much that scars. good luck!

They cut below the bikini line now. Nobody will see the scar. There are also creams for scars that fades them.
