Yes there is a Sex Offenders Register, but no it is not available to the public.

Whilst a so-called newspaper is running a campaign to make this register available to the public, most intelligent people, especially police officers and others working with sex offenders (who I would generally trust to know what they are talking about, rather that idiots with a lynch-mob mentality) oppose any public register, as they fear it would make it impossible to keep such offenders under observation.

A number of years ago a group of idiots in Portsmouth rioted on a council house estate in Portsmouth, having allegedly come into possession of a list of paedophiles. A number of houses were firebombed, including that of a female Paediatrician working at the local hospital (the residents were too stupid to know the difference between a sex offender and a doctor) and a number of firefighters were injured rescuing innocent people from burning buildings. Hampshire Police said that because of those riots they lost contact with at least five known sex offenders who they were either observing or investigating with a view to prosecution.

So, all those who want a public register, ask yourselves how many offences have those people gone on to commit because of the actions of a group of morons led by The Sun?

In the US a number of States have what is called "Megan's Law", where the register, or parts of it, is made public, but they are now moving back to a position of seeking to repeal the law as law enforcement agencies believe it does more harm than good.

There's a lot of cadoodle now about whether or not the public should be able to see it, I think we should - I'd like to know if I were living next door to a paedo, but it's all in this silly old 'human rights' thing that says a dirty little pervert is allowed his privacy! (it also says in the human rights that we have the right to be safe, but his rights are more important then ours obviously!) Sorry,I tend to rant a bit about this sort of thing...

I am unsure maybe you could ask at your local court or police station but i think they should be made public !! Why should perverts be protected ?
