I don't even get it why we fight! To an outsider or a third party, they will be scratching their heads as to why we fight! Thank God there still exist people in the world who are for peace. When i was a kid, i had a really biased opinion of Gandhi and was horrified when the world ranked Gandhi as the second most influential person in the world. And there was no Jinnah anywhere! but later when i grew up i started reading articles not merely from a Pakistani point of view and i realized that if it hadn't been for Gandhi Pakistan would never had received its financial assets which the Indian govt. had refused to pay. Also he was assassinated over a fact that he was promoting Muslim-Hindu peace! And you see the same story repeated from an Indian point of view towards Jinnah. So my point is, politicians can 'see' into our inner most brains and exploit our weaknesses against us for our vote. I dont really like any govt in the world. Neither India's, not Pakistan's or any other country for that matter. If we just look ahead of the hatred, we will realize that we dont hate each other but rather this hatred has been fueled into us. I dont even see a legitimate reason behind this intolerance. Sure Pakistanis divided India into half to create Pakistan and then Indian govt was partially responsible for breaking up East- and West-Pakistan, but come on that happened 40-60 years ago! are we going to let that hatred spoil our chances for a better future. Hell not!

On the surface every one talks of friendship and confidence building measures. The mutual suspicion is too deep. No one wants to give up their stand. There have been 4 wars so far. The generation which saw bloodshed on both sides during partition in 1947 is nearing extinction. However all those ghastly scenes and associated memories are difficult to erase. The Pakistani supported{as per India} terrorist attacks are still continuing. In the current environment I do not see any long lasting settlement between India and Pakistan.

When peace loving people will not give up and are persistent to see a peaceful era, then genuine friendship will occur.
