Kimberlite is well-known mainly because it can be a diamond-bearing rock, and is quite rare. "Float" refers to loose pieces of rock that may have been carried some distance from their original source by gravity, water, ice, glaciers. You may have read an article about Kimberlite float in Canada that has recently aroused the interest of mining companies in finding the source of the float. Some companies have been doing airborne geophysical surveys to map out potential targets near the places where float has been found.
