Have a dwarf apple tree which has produced lots of fruit this year, but its got a bit out of contro,ll and many of branches bend down letting fruit sit on ground. Any suggestions as to how to prune, or websites for advice. Dont mind reduced fruitning next year if it helps in long run. (its a BRAMLEY)

The branches that touch the ground, cut back three quarters of new growth from this year. Others, cut back half the new growth. Any branches that cross, cut one out to prevent future problems. Now is the time to do it.

Not sure of your location, but if you live in any climate where it snows, I recommend that you wait to prune any limbs until late spring. Remove the fruit when it's JUST starting to form. This will allow your tree to focus on the limb strength and leaf production, thus enhancing the root system to become deeper and wider.

When you do prune the limbs (to achieve the correct shape of tree for more even appearance) use a mixture of latex paint and antiseptic mouth wash over the pruned edge. It will seal the limb and protect it from insects and the antiseptic will keep out mold and rot.

Dave Wilson Nursery has lots of advise on backyard orchard culture for home growers. They describe how to prune so that one need not even own a ladder.

I think much of this is applicable to your situation.
