There is a book by David Stoll, Is Latin America Turning Protestant?: The politics of Evangelical Growth (University of California Press, 1990). It is a bit dated, distinctly biased, but may have some names and sources that give a trail to follow. While still on the issue of politics, unfortunately for Evangelicals are pushing a Christ agenda more than any political one, the Michael Dodson paper may give a few more leads to pursue.

Perhaps a better trail would be Benedita de Silva and the "Brazil for Christ" organization.
